2030 Vision
In a new report authored for 2030 Vision we explore how artificial intelligence (AI) provides an opportunity to understand and solve the framework for good agreed in 2015 by 193 countries: the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The main objective was to survey the landscape of research and initiatives on AI and the SDGs to identify key themes and questions in need of further exploration.
The capabilities of AI – including automating routine tasks, analyzing big data, and bringing intelligence and learning to various processes – expand our capacity to understand and solve complex, dynamic, and interconnected global challenges such as the SDGs.
The main objective was to survey the landscape of research and initiatives on AI and the SDGs to identify key themes and questions in need of further exploration. We also reviewed the state of AI and the SDGs in two sectors – food and agriculture and healthcare – to understand if and how AI is being deployed to address the SDGs and the challenges and opportunities in doing so.
About 2030Vision
2030Vision is a partnership that connects businesses, NGOs and Governments with the technology and expertise they need to realize the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. In December 2017, SustainAbility wrote 2030 Vision’s first report, Uniting to Deliver Technology for the Global Goals, which addressed the role of digital technology – big data, robotics, internet of things, AI, and other technologies – in achieving the SDGs.
