Location: North America
The challenge
GenOn’s was looking to develop conceptual solar and battery energy storage projects at 20+ locations to increase the value of land adjacent to existing assets or replacing decommissioned assets. As such, the client needed help to develop a renewables-related strategy to inform their expansion.
What we did
ERM developed a robust strategy in coordination with GenOn and completed constraints analyses as well as developed permitting pathways for each location. The output of these constraints analyses was buildable acreage potential and permitting feasibility, which informed interconnection applications and infrastructure layout options. The project included review of each country’s local jurisdiction’s (JHA) code of ordinance, interviews with representatives at the planning and zoning department as well as defined detailed permitting requirements and relevant contacts for development of land with renewable technology.
The impact
ERM’s experts helped to maximize potential of adjacent land that would otherwise be sold below potential value. Our team will continue to support GenOn with the advancement of permitting on select sites to further alleviate risks and increase value for potential buyers.
