Quarterly Update on ESG and EHS Regulations
To help organizations stay abreast of regulatory developments, the Sustainability Institute publishes this Global Regulations Radar on a recurring basis —a resource offering a snapshot of the most critical ESG and EHS regulations affecting global companies.
The geographic footprint of regulations is ever expanding. Requirements that originate in one jurisdiction are increasingly influencing business operations far beyond national borders. These developments are part of a global trend: an ongoing shift from voluntary initiatives to enforceable expectations.
In this edition, we look at the changing regulatory dynamics in the U.S., spotlighting select Executive Orders (EOs). We also provide an expanded view of key regulations across:
- Africa: Kenya’s Climate Change (Carbon Markets) Regulations
- APAC: Japan’s SSBJ Standards
- Europe: EU Omnibus, EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), EU Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive
- North America: U.S. Extended Producer Responsibility Regulations, U.S. Building Performance Standards
- The Middle East: Federal Decree-Law No. (11) of 2024 on the Reduction of Climate Change Effects
While the regulations matrix does not include a comprehensive list of all regulations enforced in these geographies, it highlights some of the most important rules that are likely to have the greatest impact on companies with global operations.
Companies can use this information to better determine the actions, resources and timelines they will need to meet their applicable regulations, ultimately leveraging compliance to create business value.
