Ever since I was little, I knew that I wanted a career that would make a positive impact on society and the environment. I grew up in a small town in upstate New York and I spent a great deal of time in the great outdoors. During the summers, I’d go on all-girls wilderness camps. I even embarked on a 30-day canoeing trip in Northern Canada in my last summer at camp. I think my career path was set very early on.
My passion for the environment took me to Bucknell University, where I majored in Managing for Sustainability. I did a variety of internships, then worked in a client service role with a market research business. About a year and a half later, I had the chance to join ERM – and I leapt at it. I knew the company had a great reputation and was well respected. But, more than that, they shared my values. Their thought leadership, the influential clients they work with, the fact they are the world’s largest pure play sustainability consultancy – it all resonated with me. It was clear that it was the sort of place where I could make that positive impact I’d always wanted.
Even then, I was surprised to find out just how much everyone shares my passion. The people here are genuinely excited about the projects we work on, eager to share the latest updates from the world of sustainability and quick to pass on the knowledge they’ve picked up from their latest achievements. It’s far more than just a job to them, and to me too.
Because we share that common purpose, because we work with that singular focus, there’s a real people-centric, collaborative culture at ERM – right from the top, throughout every level and area of the organisation. Rather than a competitive environment, this is open and supportive. We learn from each other, lean on each other, build each other up.
Here, I’m surrounded by experts across the field, doing essential work that shapes the future –exactly what the little girl I was always wanted.
