ERM has now published our 2021 Sustainability Report, continuing the theme of the Decade of Action from our 2020 Sustainability Report, and the need to accelerate innovative solutions to the sustainability challenges that are facing business and society. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has in many ways contributed to a tipping point for business, with increasing number of companies making bold pledges on climate action, Diversity Equality and Inclusion (DE&I), and biodiversity-loss.
The Report is our 10th published Sustainability Report and sets out what ERM is doing to address these and other sustainability challenges; first and foremost through our consulting services, but also how we are ‘walking the talk’ through our own operations and non-client collaborations.
It is also published in the year when ERM is marking its 50th anniversary. Five decades in which we have had to respond to many changes, including some significant global shocks. Experience that has helped us to build the resilience we needed to navigate the recent health, social and economic impacts associated with the global pandemic.
Impact with clients
In pursuit of our purpose of shaping a sustainable future with the world’s leading organizations, we draw on more than 50 years of environmental, health, safety, risk and social experience helping clients to define goals and translate them into action. The Report outlines our impact through our work with clients by setting out the key influences we believe are driving business decision making and action, illustrating how we are actually doing this through more than 60 powerful case studies.
Living our values
In parallel with advising clients on sustainability matters, we are also managing our own response. This includes our commitment to net zero across our operations by 2050 and the strengthening of our Science Based Targets to align to a 1.5 degree Celsius target. We remain committed to a strong program to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals through our client work, operations and broader collaborations. And our Standing Together program through the ERM Foundation supports our long-term not for profit partners as they responded to the impacts of the pandemic on their organizations
As proud Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards Pioneer, this the Sustainability Report 2021 serves as our Communication on Progress, an annual disclosure to stakeholders on progress made in implementing the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact in the areas of human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption.
Recognizing the complexity of achieving more sustainable outcomes is crucial to achieving long-term success for business and the planet. The momentum behind business and investor action on sustainability is unstoppable. ERM will contribute to this momentum through our work and our thought leadership. I encourage you to read this year’s Sustainability Report where we describe the impact of our work with clients, our own operational performance and collaboration with partners – and how this is contributing to the Decade of Action.
