ERM Partner Caleb Wall has joined the advisory board for the Work to Zero initiative.
Launched by the National Safety Council (NSC) in 2019 and supported by a grant from the McElhattan Foundation, the program aims to eliminate death in the workplace through the adoption of emerging technology. The Advisory Council is comprised of industry, academic, government, solutions and thoughts leaders in the fast-moving EHS technology space and will advise on their work.
Since 1913, NSC has used data, expertise and innovation to solve some of the toughest workplace safety problems. Work to Zero will accelerate the development of technologies that hold the highest potential, by using decades of insight, the latest available data, and the knowledge of an unparalleled network of safety leaders and practitioners. This initiative will pilot and evaluate promising technology and training programs such as wearables, robotics, virtual and augmented reality, automation and artificial intelligence that could eliminate workplace fatalities in our lifetime.
ERM is active in this arena, most recently through our ‘Connected Safety’ approach to digitization of EHS. This approach focuses on connecting people, process and technology to ensure the presence of safeguards - rather than the absence of incidents - as the best vector to achieve Goal Zero. Caleb specializes in driving improved business performance through risk management. By focusing on data and technology, he helps companies understand their operations and the opportunities and risks as they exist on the ground, in the hands of operators and front-line leaders.

This is an area of personal passion for me, and I am looking forward to sharing ERM’s collective experience and thought leadership with the other innovators at the table. The Council is currently researching the current ‘state of play’ and will meet as a group during the Annual NSC Congress & Expo in September, where ERM will be represented by our experts, including Group CEO Keryn James. The Work to Zero Initiative will be hosting a landmark summit on digital transformation in February 2020.
