Matt Haddon, ERM’s Global Lead of Sustainability and Climate Change was featured in the Environment Analyst Insight Report March 2020 issue titled Exploring Pathways to Net Zero for the O&G Industry.

Environment Analyst is a leading intelligence, publishing and events business operating within the environmental sector. The report, available to corporate members, examines the latest thinking on low-carbon pathways and ‘operationalizing climate risk’ in the oil & gas sector as discussed at IP Week 2020 in London.

In the report, Haddon shared ERM’s perspectives for transitioning to a low carbon economy that require oil and gas companies to look at data and supply chain management, internal communications and investor relations to influence how their business model needs to evolve, or shift from an ‘old economy new economy’ way of operating.

“Our clients are talking more about what the transition to low carbon energy means and how they will achieve it,” said Haddon. “We are helping them to rethink their business strategy and how they can operationalize sustainability in a practical way. One key element of this is to use data to show the company’s performance.” He also noted that ERM is growing to meet the demand for sustainability and climate change services through acquisition and the expertise we are adding to our team.

Haddon’s presentation at IP Week 2020 on the low carbon economy transition, Operationalizing Climate Risk in Oil and Gas, was also featured in the report. Key messages to attendees were the need to ‘walk the talk every day to reduce carbon’ and to ‘dare to imagine carbon as the only license to operate that really matters’. He also stressed the importance of leadership and employee engagement during the transition.
