ERM CVS, the independent certification, verification and assurance business of the ERM Group, is now an approved ResponsibleSteel Certification Body.
ERM CVS has been an associate member of ResponsibleSteel since March 2020 and now adds the ResponsibleSteel Standard (RSS) certification to a growing suite of Metals & Mining services, including the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA) and the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI). ERM CVS is one of three certification providers with global scope, working closely with leading steel providers to promote steel as a responsible material.
The ResponsibleSteel Standard was developed to identify and reward companies that are committed to creating a responsible steel value chain, from the sourcing of raw materials through to the sale of their final products. Through a global standard and certification program, applicable to the entire sector, ResponsibleSteel aims to drive business and consumer confidence that the steel they use has been sourced and produced responsibly. The ResponsibleSteel Standard defines key principles and criteria, with core aims to:
- Ensure sustainability goals regarding availability of clean water
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions
- Create jobs that benefit individuals and communities
- Ensure responsible patterns of production and consumption
Such assurances can offer businesses across the steel value chain an advantage in a market that is subject to ever increasing scrutiny. This is most interesting where projects/ initiatives are in support of a Low Carbon Economy Transition (LCET) and there is a key driver to prove a wider commitment to sustainability.
