Leveraging TCFD in your organization: Are you prepared for the new Swiss Ordinance on Climate Disclosures?

In November 2022, the Swiss Federal Council adopted the Ordinance on Climate Disclosures, which provides for the binding implementation of the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) by large Swiss companies from 1 January 2024.

ERM has been a supporter of the TCFD since 2018 and was also the primary author of the TCFD Technical Supplement: The Use of Scenario Analysis in Disclosure of Climate-Related Risks and Opportunities. Given its extensive experience in supporting clients to implement the TCFD recommendations, in this webinar ERM, together with its guest speakers, shared insights and lessons on:

Implications of the new Swiss Ordinance on Climate Disclosures on Swiss companies: Who is in scope and what will be required?

The TCFD was created by the Financial Stability Board (FSB) in recognition that climate change presents a significant risk to the global financial sector. The TCFD recommendations guide companies on disclosing climate-related financial risks to investors, lenders, and insurers, through the lens of governance, strategy, risk management, metrics and targets.

Harald Diaz-Bone

Harald joined ERM as Partner on ESG Advisory / Corporate Sustainability and Climate Change for the EMEA Region. He is a senior international strategy advisor with 25+ years’ experience on sustainability & decarbonization solutions, working at the nexus of policy, technology and economics. His broad knowledge of sectoral policy and regulatory issues is enriched with deep expertise in public and corporate strategies on sustainability and climate change (decarbonization, carbon neutrality, climate technologies, climate strategies and reports, climate investment opportunities). A trained sustainability researcher (with Berlin Institute of Technology, Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy, ifeu-Institute Heidelberg, Agora Energiewende Berlin) and former long-term international civil servant (e.g. with UN Climate Change/UNFCCC and UN Industrial Development/UNIDO), Harald has dedicated his second career towards the implementation and operationalization of corporate sustainability, following the adoption of the Paris Agreement in 2015.

Hiba Arshad

Senior Consultant, Central Europe (Switzerland) Corporate Sustainability & Climate Change

Hiba Arshad is a Senior Consultant and leads ERM’s Corporate Sustainability and Climate Change team in Switzerland. Her core focus is supporting clients in improving their ESG performance and implementing the TCFD recommendations. Hiba works closely with companies in developing ESG goals, associated KPIs and implementation plans covering a wide range of ESG topics, from climate change mitigation to responsible supply chain practices. Hiba previously worked in the UK as a Strategy and Policy Advisor in the UK Treasury, where she advised the Chancellor on high-priority climate policy topics and led on the delivery of the UK Government’s Net Zero Review interim report.

James Hubbard

Associate Partner, Northern Europe Corporate Sustainability & Climate Change

James leads our work on climate risk and opportunity in the UK. He has completed scenario analysis, financial quantification, and detailed risk analysis for hundreds of clients across all economic sectors. He has also helped clients to meet regulatory requirements, including in the UK, and investor requests including the CDP. His technical expertise includes working on physical climate, and he has built platform solutions which provide and explain data which outline the risks that companies face from climate hazards.
