Alvaro is a Managing Consultant at ERM and specialises in license-to-operate issues, particularly on socio-political risks and ESG due diligence within the mining sector. He has provided support to numerous large, mid-cap and junior mining companies and investors through a variety of assignments across key mining jurisdictions, especially in Latin America. These assignments include ESG strategy development, stakeholder engagement, and market entry initiatives in countries such as Peru, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, and Ecuador. Alvaro recently led a team responsible for designing an ESG screening and due diligence framework for one of the largest diversified mining companies globally. This framework has been successfully implemented in the evaluation of over 150 potential opportunities spanning various geographies such as Latin America, Indonesia, and Southern Africa, covering multiple commodities, particularly critical minerals.
Prior to joining ERM, Alvaro held positions as an advisor to the Deputy Minister of Mining in Colombia and as a consultant at Control Risks and CRU Group. He holds a master’s in development management from the London School of Economics and a Master’s in Political Studies and International Affairs from Universidad del Rosario in Colombia.
