Andrew is a Chartered Engineer and a Registered Functional Safety Engineer (RFSE) with the Institute of Measurement & Control (InstMC). With over 25 years of safety and reliability engineering experience in all lifecycle phases of the Aerospace, Chemicals, Machinery, Process, and Oil & Gas industries. Andrew has worked extensively with safety standards such as IEC 61508, IEC 61511, IEC 62061, EN 21789, ISO 13849, OLF-070, and Def Stan 00-56.
Andrew has worked across all lifecycle phases of safety system design and operation. He is widely regarded as a pragmatic and highly competent Functional Safety practitioner able to apply his knowledge and experience to all applications. He has an in-depth understanding and background in pneumatic hydraulics, electrical & electronic control, and automation and propulsion systems. Andrew is a recognized and approved facilitator of safety studies such as HAZOP, LoPA, FTA, FMECA, and an approved Independent Safety Assessor for several key clients globally and is widely used as the technical authority for functional safety on CAPEX and OPEX projects. Outside of ERM, Andrew is a member of the IEC 61508 Association management committee and a director of The CASS Scheme, which is a non-profit organization aimed at promoting the correct use of the IEC 61508 group of standards.
As well as being a Safety & Reliability Engineer, Andrew has also spent the last seven years as the Technical Manager for a Classification, Certification, and Inspection body, being accountable to the UK competent Authorities, UK Government, and UKAS for ensuring mandatory regulatory frameworks are being adhered too, which has proven more complex in recent years with the advent of Brexit, which has allowed Andrew to support Competent Authorities in developing new schemes of work under the new regulatory frameworks.
