Global Inclusion Week
In October 2019, we celebrated ERM’s inaugural Global Inclusion Week. Over the past couple of years, we have held global events on disability, International Women’s Day and Pride, but Global Inclusion Week was an opportunity to reflect on all facets of diversity and how inclusion unites them.
Over the course of the week, we shared a variety of perspectives on inclusion through our internal social media platforms and local office events. For the theme, we chose a bit of word play: in English, inclusion contains the letters U (a homophone of “you”), I and US. The essence of inclusion at ERM is what makes each of us unique: our heritage, our life experience, our way of thinking, our beliefs, perspectives, abilities, disabilities, strengths and vulnerabilities.
We each share a responsibility to bring everything that makes us who we are to the work we do. Equally, we have a responsibility to make sure we support every single colleague to bring their full self to working at ERM. Together, we can remove any barrier that might be in the way to be the most diverse, equal and inclusive organization we can be. One of the key concepts we covered during the week was being an ally of inclusion, recognizing that you do not have to identify as a member of a particular dimension of diversity to be an advocate.
ERM's approach of building an inclusive culture has ushered a sense of confidence, authenticity and self-motivation in me to continue 'being myself' irrespective of whether I succeed or fail.
