Rate the Raters research by SustainAbility, an ERM Group company, has been highlighted in the Campbell Institute’s recent white paper Research Outlook: Sustainability Frameworks.

The paper reviews literature that discusses sustainability reporting guidelines and metrics, such as those created by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), and features key findings from Rate the Raters by SustainAbility.

ERM has been a proud and active member of the Campbell Institute, the Center of Environmental, Health and Safety Excellence at the National Safety Council since June 2017. The Campbell Institute brings together top-performing organizations from around the globe to share best practices and lessons learned among a broader audience.

SustainAbility’s Rate the Raters research series strives to better understand the universe of external sustainability ratings and to influence and improve the quality and transparency of such ratings. The latest Rate the Raters report, launched in March 2020, shares insights from investors on current Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) ratings and how they use these ratings to evaluate ESG topics. The report also includes specific recommendations for companies on how to approach the ESG ratings landscape, get the most out of ESG ratings and improve ESG data disclosure.

Sustainability Frameworks noted several suggestions from our 2019 Rate the Raters report, such as improving comparability and consistency among rating systems, making the process of ESG disclosure less time consuming and more transparent, and tying ratings to sustainability thresholds and actionable measures.

Through our work with global companies and collaboration with multi-stakeholder groups, ERM raises awareness of sustainability trends and topics that educate, inspire and sometimes challenge organizations and industries.
