No One Likes a Safety Cop

One of the most potentially impactful roles you have as a safety leader - at any level within an organization - is your ability to coach and influence behavior change. However, talking to someone about his or her unsafe actions can be quite challenging. Despite our sincere efforts, we may end up playing the role of the “safety cop.” And no one likes a safety cop! This session will discuss why so many safety “interventions” fail, review some critical do’s and don’ts, and provide practical examples of how to have meaningful conversations with someone about their safety.

Matthew Botzler

Matthew Botzler, Health & Safety Director - Matthew is a Senior Project Manager based in ERM’s Malvern, Pennsylvania office. His primary focus has been in the practice of site investigation and remediation and has taken active roles in assisting with the management of contaminated sites for a wide range of industries including chemical, Oil and Gas, and light and heavy manufacturing. Matthew is also a practicing Health and Safety professional and currently serves as ERM’s H&S Director for the MidAtlantic and Northeast Business Units. He supports employee-training, implementation of health and safety programs and initiatives, risk assessment and mitigation, and management of safety related incidents.

Steven Perkins

Steven Perkins, Business Unit Health & Safety Director - Steven is the Health and Safety Director for ERM's Western US Business Units. He has 20 years of experience in EHS consulting and currently stewards ERM's global behavior based safety training program for new employees.
