Before joining ERM in 2011, I worked for three years at another consultancy on social issues. However, my background was in environmental management and environmental science.
I had heard about ERM’s reputation from clients, so I researched the company and applied for a position advertised on a head hunter’s website. I was excited to be hired by ERM and have the opportunity to use both by my social and environmental expertise at work.
In 2014, I was promoted from junior consultant to consultant, and this year I became a senior consultant. During my first two years, I was undecided about my career path in the company. However, when I returned from my maternity leave in 2013, I received tremendous support from the leader of the performance assurance team in my office, and my career blossomed. Even though I did not report to her, she provided guidance and helped me improve my skills. In particular, she included me in a key project to develop procedures for a major oil and gas client. The success of this project gave me confidence in my skills and capabilities, which led to my involvement in more projects with a variety of project managers.
My social and environmental expertise has been very useful in helping clients. I am involved in environmental and social impact assessments, social and economic surveys, and resettlements. I work closely with the team in Australia on renewables. Early in my career at ERM, I helped with hydropower projects, of which there are many in Vietnam. That experience led to involvement on wind and solar power projects with clients across different sectors. I have participated in ground breaking work, including the first solar and the first wind farm projects in Cambodia.
The people are the best part of ERM. We are a worldwide network. Anytime I need technical help or support, I can reach out to experts I know in others regions or to the entire organization through our internal social networking tools.
